Getting Started

New to DataFab? Start here for the basics on signing in and navigating the app.

How do I sign in?

Click the Sign In button in the top-right of the top bar and enter your credentials. Once signed in, all sections you have access to will be unlocked from the home page.

What are the main sections of DataFab?

Quality (welds, NDE, turnover), Operations (jobs, schedules, budgets — admin only), Estimating (bids and rate sheets), Library (code books, specs, references), and Users (team members and roles).

How do I show or hide the left sidebar?

Use the sidebar toggle button in the top bar. Your preference is saved across pages and tabs so it stays consistent as you navigate the app.

Managing Projects

Create, track, and close out projects across Quality and Operations.

How do I start a new project?

Open Operations → Projects and use the New Project action. Fill in the basics (name, client, location, dates) and save. The project will then appear in both Operations and the relevant Quality views.

How do I track project progress?

Each project has its own dashboard with tabs for schedule, welds, NDE, personnel, and budget. The Quality and Operations dashboards roll these up across all active projects.

When is a project considered complete?

A project is complete when its turnover package has been finalized and its status is set to Complete. Completed projects still count toward 12-month rolling metrics like repair rate and bids awarded.

Quality

Welds, NDE, personnel certs, WPS/PQR, and turnover packages.

How is the repair rate calculated?

The Last 12 Mo. Repair Rate card on the Quality Dashboard reflects the overall repair rate across all active and completed projects within the past 12 months.

Where do I manage WPS and PQR records?

Quality → WPS / PQR. You can add, edit, and link procedures to projects and welders from there.

How do I track personnel certifications?

Quality → QC Certs lists everyone with their current cert status and expiration dates so you can stay ahead of renewals.

Estimating

Build piping bids — shop, field, or combined — using saved rate sheets.

How do I create a new estimate?

Estimating → New Estimate. Choose the bid type (shop, field, or combined), select a rate sheet, and start adding line items. The estimate is saved automatically as you work.

What does the Bids Awarded — Past 12 Mo. card show?

It counts every estimate marked Won within the last 365 days, across all users.

How do I manage rate sheets?

Estimating → Rate Sheets. Each rate sheet is reusable across estimates; updates only affect new estimates that reference it.

Operations

Jobs, schedules, employees, and budgets. Admin access required.

Why is Operations greyed out for me?

Operations is restricted to admin and supervisor roles. If you need access, contact your administrator from the Users section.

How does the schedule work?

Operations → Schedule shows all assignments by week. Holidays are excluded from working-day calculations automatically.

Library

Code books, standards, manuals, specs, procedures, and bookmarks.

Can I bookmark a frequently used document?

Yes — open any resource and use the Bookmark action. Bookmarked items appear under Library → Bookmarks for quick access.

How do I find a specific code or standard?

Use the category sidebar (Code Books, Standards, Manuals, Specifications, Procedures) or the search bar at the top of any library view.

Users & Roles

Manage team members, contact info, and access levels.

What roles exist in DataFab?

Admin, Supervisor, and standard User. Admins can manage everyone; supervisors can access Operations; standard users can use Quality, Estimating, and Library.

How do I add a new team member?

Users → Add User. Fill in name, email, and role. They will receive a sign-in invitation.
